Installing on Mac Mini with OS X 10.5 - 24-06-2008, 09:08 AM

Hi,

I have an Intel Mac Mini with OS X 10.5. I am pretty new to MAC / Unix and need to work out how to install eSupport onto it. I see the pre-requisites are PHP and MySQL, I can install mySql but what about PHP?

I understand PHP comes with MAC OSX, is this sufficient?

Do I need anything else?

Is there a dedicated "HowTo" doc on preparing and installing supportsuite on a mac?

Thanks

Graham

hmmm never heard of anyone installing Kayako on a Mac let alone a Mac Mini

and you would also need apache and or IIS aka http service which I don't think there is a version for Mac...

The salesman says it is done all the time lol. I know 10.5 comes with its own version of apache and some sort of php installed.

Just hoping someone out there has done it!

is this Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Server edition..

I've never heard of it being done on a Mac let alone a Mac Mini as Mac Mini is the very low end system so even if you did get it to work everything would be very slow...

Hi gbrown,

Absolutely - it is possible to run PHP on a Mac (see PHP on Mac OS X).

For the record, Macs come with a web-server preinstalled (I think it is Apache and/or lighthttpd).

Any Mac Mini should be more than sufficient to run a web server that handles a moderate load (assuming the Mini is not exhausted by other applications) - you can run effective web servers on incredibly old hardware.

It extremely easy to deploy LAMP applications on a MAC, I have done it in the past several times.
The first thing you need to do is enable Apache and PHP, to do this follow the steps at Enabling PHP in Mac OS X 10.5.

Then you need to install MySQL server (MySQL :: MySQL 5.0 Downloads) and after finishing these steps you have a working environment ready to start your Kayako installation.

Hope this works.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, it does sound do-able... I know the MAC Mini isn't the fastest beast in the pack but is Core2 Duo 1.6 Ghz so should be able to handle a ticketing system for a few people. I am not looking to handle thousands of hits a day! (well at least not yet lol)

I'll have a play and see if I can get something that looks meaningful running on the box. If it goes too slow then I will have to move to another system (it is also running a mailserver but again only for about 5 people).

Thanks

Graham

okdokay

I got mysql installed, got PHP & Apache working and installed ZEND. I created a test.php which shows PHP as OK and there is the Zend banner at the bottom. I followed the instructions for the install of esupport, copied the Upload directory up to a /support directory. When I try to start the setup through the /support/setup link I get the error "ZEND optimizer not installed"...

Anyone got an idea what I do here?

Thanks

Graham

check in your phpinfo(); file what kind of php.ini is used and check if zend is loaded there.

Hi,

PHP 5.2.5

Zend enabled

Zend does say Zend Engine v2.2.0 in the banner but I installed the latest V3... Do you think this could be the issue?

Sorry - Should add that the Zend modified PHP.ini is in use not any other one installed.

Hi

I am learning at a fast pace! I was wrong, Zend is not loading - I didn;t understand how the phpinfo page shoudl look. Looking in my Apache error log I see the following:

Failed loading /usr/local/Zend/lib/ZendExtensionManager.so: (null)

I have installed both 3.3.3 and 3.3.0a and neither seem to work, have double and triple checked that the syntax is correct. Has anyone else seen this error before? Kayako support will not help unless I get this working...

If anyone has got this working, how did you do it? What versions?

Thanks

Graham

Right - I gave up with Zend. Thought I would have a go at Ioncube. Guess what I got lol:

Quote:
Failed loading /library/webserver/documents/ioncube/ioncube_loader_dar_5.2.so: (null)
So I looked up this error and came across a document suggesting that some 64 bit loaders were required. I downloaded and copied the loaders across and hey presto I now have the Ioncube loaders working using the ioncube test script. I am going to give eSupport another go now!
