Protecting via htaccess admin & staff folders ok? - 31-03-2009, 04:14 PM

Is it ok to protect those folders just so my IP can access or would this cause problems?

No problems at all. This is, in fact, a sensible procedure.

would this cause any issues with LiveResponse or KayakoMobile? you can already protect those folders via the config.php file...

Yes, it would. I wouldn't advise doing so if you use Kayako Mobile as mobile ISPs give you a different IP depending on your location. LR should be fine as you can just specify the IPs of the desktop machines using it.

I don't think so. KayakoMobile communicates with /mobile/index.php, and the LiveResponse desktop application communicates with /winapp/index.php

I was saying if you did it using the config.php file way Steve suggested it would cause these problems. Doing .htaccess protection on /admin/, /staff/ and /winapp/ would be the better way.

I wanted to go this route and its a good thing to do unless you do find yourself accessing the admin / staff from different IP addresses. I bounce around computers and check in at different places so this would not work for me.

Good thing to do if you're just always accessing from the same IP. No risk of someone trying to get in.

Not sure if its a feature request but if a failed attempt at an admin login shoot an e-mail to the admin.

One way would be to RDC to your main machine when accessing from another machine.

True I use to do this a while back. Should probably set that up again.
