(split) iPhones and BMWs - 21-02-2009, 08:42 PM

Impressive. Can see this being useful to many users. Personally wouldn't touch anything Apple make just like I wouldn't drive a BMW but there you go

No disrespect but is that a preference or do you not like paying more for quality. Just curious why you would not touch anything Apple makes.

I don't like how they lock stuff down. With regards to the iPhone, I prefer Windows Mobile because of the fact you can install what you want on it. I don't like purchasing something and then being told how I am permitted to use it - the fact they are going down the legal route to stop people unlocking it so you can install what you want on it annoys me even more..

It is annoying that the Apple app store is moderated. However, at least the OS is usable and reliable. Apple aren't going down to the legal route to stop people modifying their phone; they're exercising the DMCA to stop people redistributing modified copies of the bootloader.

However, this doesn't stop Apple computers (or iPods) in general being of fantastic quality. OSX is pretty good too.

With regards to the comment about BMWs - well, you must really be against quality

Isn't it because they are not making their percentage on the sale and also because the user can switch networks and they stop getting their cut of the voice / data usage?

It isn't that reason I don't like BMWs - they are great quality cars. After driving for coming on 2 years tho, I just happen to now agree with Jeremy Clarkson -> Top Gear YouTube Video. The drivers of them seam to think they are above everyone else often never letting you out and also sitting RIGHT behind you on motorways to try and get you to shift over so they can get past - often when there isn't any space to shift over into.

You can no longer buy an iPhone at the store and then sign up to a contract at home (which is how people could pay for the iPhone (i.e. £99 or £199) and jailbreak it for PAYG). However, yes - it must be because they will get less of their App store cut.

Fellow Top Gear fan, your knowledge is out-dated YouTube - Top Gear-Cool wall - BMW vs Audi

I know he said that, but I still feel there are plenty of them driving them. There are up here, anyway!

There might be, but the numbers are dwindling in comparison compared to aggressive Audi drivers. I also seem to have a problem with Volvo drivers on our motorways - showing off their torque and high-gear acceleration.

But why was said driver in the BMW lane to begin with?

They have their own lane now that only they can use, eh? lol

Lots of HGVs up here deciding to overtake each other with a difference of about 2mph often force you to use the 3rd lane on a motorway. At that point a BMW (or, sometimes Audis but not as often up here) doing a very fast speed comes up behind you and refuses to back off until you move over...

Do you have a BMW by the way Jamie? Just sounds like it how you were defending them...

man wish I had a BMW no just a Honda Odyssey.. guess good thing your not here cause you could be doing 90 in a 55 zone and people still passing you left and right... You can fly by a cop doing 120 and he wont pull you over unless your speeding and not using your turn signal when switching lanes...

It isn't the speeding that bothers me - I am actually very much in favour of something that would allow higher speed limits on the motorway (maybe people who have passed their advanced test in the UK like me....). If these people slowed down when they seen a traffic build up blocking their way it would be fine. It is the fact they sit about 2cm behind you until you move over that just annoys everyone and is very dangerous.

Yes - it is clearly marked. It is the right one

In most cars, any kind of pressure on the brake pedal will turn on your red lights. If you want them to back off, gently rest your foot on it - that usually works for me, and normally won't activate your brakes.

I used to have use of one, but not right now. I'm thinking about one when I come to change some time this year, though.

That's crazy - if you're caught doing > 100mph for 0.2 miles here, it is guaranteed court appearance, ban and potentially a fine. I guess those kinds of speeds are possibly more acceptable on your freeways, given how straight and sound they are. It'd just be downright dangerous to do it on our bendy and congested motorways.

nah cop's would try to pull you over if they could but only vehicles you see here doing 120+ is Speed Bikes, Porches, Ferrari's, etc cars that no way in the world is the cop going to be to catch up with so think they dont even bother... Now if I drove by going 75 in a 55 they would probably pull me over.. just dont know as I have a Radar Detector so when it goes off I slow my *** down already gotten a ticket in Washington State and Virginia dont need anymore...

Yea, I hear it is strict down south in the UK. Up north where I am, they generally don't patrol the motorways very much. We don't have any fixed speed cameras in Cumbria either. Suppose the motorways are pretty straight up here and not very congested.
