Demo/Tutorial Software - 15-05-2007, 05:57 PM

Hi:

We are looking for recommendations on software for creating software demo/tutorials. We are looking at Adobe Captivate. Anyone recommend any other ones? Thanks in advance!

Here's a free one I've used: Wink
Here's a paid one I haven't yet used, but I have used their other product "Snagit" and love it:
Camtasia. Unfortunately, it's a little pricy at $300

I recommend Adobe Captivate, but this is the only one I have ever used and I have heard alternatives tend to be better..

Thanks, keep them coming. I have trialed Captivate and Camtasia and I am leaning more towards Captivate. I also love TechSmiths Snag It program (such a great and efficient program), but for some reason I am not catching onto their demo software.......such a tough decision.

Haven't used Captivate, but I have an older version of RoboDemo (Captivate's predecessor) I'm no longer using.

Adobe Captivate is the best one in my opinion. I have used a couple when I first started doing demos (couple of years ago) and Captivate is the best one.

I use it to create the Kayako Flash Tutorials.

Just now trialing Captivate, and I have to say it's light years ahead of the RoboDemo version I had. Very easy to use (the timeline feature similar to Flash is incredible) and they're running a special right now so for me to upgrade isn't too bad. I'm likely buying today.

Yea, Macromedia kept improving the program when they took over that RoboHelp company. Aparently Captivate V3 is about 6 months off so hopefully that will make it even easier to create demos.

Where did you hear this? I spoke to Adobe today while ordering and asked them about it and they claim to have no such plans. CS3, yes; Captivate, no word...

<OT>
If you own any Macromedia titles as well, you might want to visit Adobe's site and register them again. Apparently in the merger some of the records weren't handed over and they lost mine. I've registered every version since 1.2.

Hello

I too use captivate and it is excellent. Had I not already purchased it though I would have been tempted to give these guys a try - Indigo Rose who just released a new product : http://www.indigorose.com/site/products.php

They have just released CaptureCam Pro. I use one of their other products and it is excellent and great value for money. I use them because tools are more flexible that Installshield and cheaper.
