Perhaps those that come here might be unhappy with thier current host, or looking to move off the hosted solution? Advertising is rarely a complete waste, although I'd imagine the conversion rate from here would be abysmal. But if even one signed up....this free advertising paid off, eh?

I don't personally like the idea of people advertising hosting here, but it does have a point.

Search engines do not follow external links posted here (nofollow is prepended to every link), nor will page rank weighting be effected.

I don't think you have looked into this properly Jamie. nofollow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for one says otherwise and I have read as much in several other places.

• Google takes "nofollow" literally and does not "follow" the link at all. That is supposedly their official statement, but experiments conducted by SEOs show conflicting results. They show instead that Google does follow the link, but does not index the linked-to page, unless it was in Google's index already for other reasons (such as other, non-nofollow links that point to the page).[6] Links with "nofollow" are included in the backlinks reporting data at Google's Webmaster Central.[7]

There is nothing to suggest that PageRank has effect on nofollow="" links. At most on that page, people claim Google do index the linked to page but still does not take it into rank calculation. Having said this, that particular cited test was flawed.

Also, Google etc. subscribe to a robots.txt standard, describing the same: The Web Robots Pages

From the Google blog and also cited on Wikipedia:

From now on, when Google sees the attribute (rel="nofollow") on hyperlinks, those links won't get any credit when we rank websites in our search results.

Search Engine Optimization is not about getting listed in a search engine, this is easy. SEO is about increasing your PageRank, and linking to an external site here won't affect that.

It may possibly do so in the Ask.com who used a localised version of a PageRank type algorithm, but would only really have an affect if someone selling support desk software, support services and so on were to link to their site from here, which isn't really welcomed anyway

No, this has nothing to do with Search Engine Optimization There are resellers out there which use Kayako, so its definitely somewhere we might be able to pick up some customers. It is also called the "Market Place" forums, where users are able to post these sort of things
