Changing DNS after server move: Kayako - 27-02-2007, 05:49 PM

Just a thought for Kayako after changing servers during the VB move:
If this happens again, it would make sense to switch the DNS zone on the losing server to point to the gaining server as well, so if people are sent to the old one through cached DNS, they get repointed right away to the new box.

It's been frustrating here to say the least, trying to reach and post/mod on this board when it disappears to the old one every few minutes..and it's still ongoing.

As a workaround, you can add an entry to your hosts file if (as in the case) you know the new IP.

example:

209.51.153.218 forums.kayako.com

Cheers,

Rich

Features I need asap:
1) Ticket search in the client portal!
2) Column display in client portal showing clients email address or name
3) Downloads by client
(i.e. - each client has their own download area and can't see/touch downloads for any other client.) This would be on top of a "public" download area.
4) Integrated KB image uploads
The ability for staff to upload images with a KB articles.
Cheers!

Seemed simpler to have one DNS zone change than to ask 1000+ members to edit thiers, but yes, that's correct.

And drop the darn TTL a week before moving. More than a tad frustrated that a new release comes out and we were watching the forum for any "gotcha's" and then "poof" move the forum.

Yes, we overrode it in our own DNS but gez, Kayako should know better.

I'm STILL getting the old server more often than not. I have to use Tor to get here reliably. Whatever happened, this was a really bad migration.

Editing your Windows hosts file, setting it as:
209.51.153.218 forums.kayako.com
should fix the issue

Kind of along time to be a propagation issue, isn't it? This is looking more like a local DNS issue at the Kayako server or registrar to me at this point. As if they have 2 nameservers defined, one pointing at each server, new and old. One is slow to respond, it switches to using the other and that one is pointing at the old box...
Simple fix.
