Very impressed with this. I have been testing it. A few bugs exist but Ryan is ironing them out. Now all we need is auto update for the core (PHP / MySQL side) which I have just made a feature request for.

Great idea... anything to make the admins life easier is a good thing..

As long as it clearly states BETA versions - or just only shows full stable builds...

I think Brent is saying "just as long as it doesn't download and install BETA builds".

In this case, it won't = it will only update STABLE builds by default

Oh right, I should really read things properly lol.

I think if there is a beta version available, it should give the user the option of downloading it.

I haven't seen the Alpha, but how does it handle file customizations to the default install.

Does it
- Just overwrite everything
or
- Does it show an error and stop the upgrade
or
- Does it list the modified files and request permission to overwite
or
- Does it rename the customised files (changed from default) and install the new ones, making & displaying a list of such files.

Ideally, it should check the file size against default size, and on mismatch rename it.

I think you are missing something Andy. The update services is only for the windows addons, not the core PHP / MySQL files...

I have suggested that some way of updating the core would be nice in the Feature Suggestions board where users could click on update from within the Admin CP and then it would download what was needed and perform the update without you needing to manually download, manually upload, run the upgrade script, ect. Hopefully this will get implemented...

A core updater is highlight unlikely at this time.

Why could it not simply be a core update notifier - Even if that note was placed in the updater above to make customers aware of the new version. Then a download link could be given to both the service Kayako provides for updating and or a download link for current paid subscribers.

That is a good feature request, to check for a new version and simply display a message in the administrator control panel.

Added to the FR forum.

Hey what do i win

Just kidding... that is how companies like Nikon and Dell have been dealing with updates - Run updater - Results are either downloads or Info posts about programs installed...

Honestly I think all updaters should run right from the program in question - like it seems you are going to do - but a quick note would then trigger the user to go to the site and look into the upgrade or download and install it or simply contact Kayako support to arrange for the update to be done for them.
