I talked about what I think the point of Twitter is for Kayako in the blog post. However, for you and me (@jmedwards), you only get to see the point of and the fun in Twitter once you have reached a 'critical mass' of friends and followers - only then does the conversation start to open up.

You can also follow notable people or groups. ranging from @stephenfry to @starbucks and @google. I follow @bbcnews or @cnnbreaking who tend to post breaking news to Twitter before their own website.

For me personally I have no interest for Twitter as I find it just something like a blog, and it may be better off posting at our own blog.. Thats just my personal opinion though...

I registered at Twitter awhile ago but never 'followed' anyone. I go to enough forums during the day to keep me updated on life's events.

I will, however, give it a try. I'm now following Kayako.

Rumors are Google will buy Twitter, so maybe in the future interesting new uses for Twitter will come up...

Here's the source:

Michael Arrington the author, was also the first one who spread the rumor on Google buying YouTube

Twitter and blogs aren't comparable. To fully appreciate why, you have to join and take part in the community and conversation.

Personally I have no use for it. I also didn't jump on the blogwagon, and here we are with blogs fading out of memory. Twitter is new-ish, and will eventually be replaced by something else...it's a fad. Again.

BBS -> Usenet -> forums -> blogs -> Twitter -> ??

(there are other branches here, like facebook and so on, but for simplicity, the above evolutionary tree)

You can tag comments on blogs too, its more or less the same, just a different way of marketing it...

When you compare the tools, yes they are roughly the same. But it doesn't do either tool (Twitter or blogs) justice simply to compare the tools. Twitter only works because of the people.

As I said, I am confident that no one can see the point in Twitter unless they try it themselves; follow some friends and interesting profiles and await the critical mass of followers/friends so that the Twitter "conversation" begins.
