Forum Bug - 12-12-2007, 02:20 PM

I don't know if anybody else has noticied this but say there is just 1 new topic inside a board. I go into it then go back to the forum home and it still shows the new topic image on the left. You have to go right up the breadcrumbs tree viewing each board to get it to dissappear.

This doesn't happen on other vBulletin boards...

This isn't a bug, but the way vBulletin works (pre-3.5). in vB 3.5, they introduced alternative database forum read marking settings (rather than cookie/inactivity based, which is sometimes accurate).

To save on resources (because this server also hosts the main site) as the forum does tend to receive heavy traffic, I have not enabled this option. I might consider changing it in the future, though.

We don't really need to disable the members list, and prevents crawlers and spammers from crawling and abusing it.

I always find it handy when looking for old posts.

How does it prevent spammers by the way? Users profiles can be found in many other areas.

It is easier to crawl, PM spam or harvest e-mail addresses (IM identities). When looking for old posts, you can type in a user's name into the search page without any search term - it will return their posts or threads created (selectable).

I'm sure you already know this, but you can also view a member's old posts by clicking thier name in the post, and choosing "Find more posts by xxx" from the drop down menu.
