Best way of backup in case of email parser failure - 18-06-2008, 05:55 PM

Hi,

At the momment if something goes wrong and the email parser stops we will lose all emails going to our email address and it is not a POP account.

Is it possible to also make the email address a POP account so that emails go to both the POP account as well as to Kayako?

This is just in case Kayako or the parser fail so that we have a backup somewhere.

We use Plesk control panel.

Thank you in advance in anticipation of a great reply

A POP account is the best to use actually. If Kayako stops working, it simply won't pull the mail and it will sit in the inbox of that account until your help desk gets fixed.

I created a POP account in Plesk, but as soon as I did this incoming emails no longer were piped to the support this.

When I deleted the POP account, emails again were piped to the support desk.

Any suggestions?

If you are okay using an external email address then you can use gmail.com. Forward all emails sent to support@domain.com to youremail@gmail.com. Enable POP in Gmail and set "When messages are accessed with POP" to "Archive Gmail's copy". That way you will have a copy of all the emails you have received. Make sure you add your gmail account as an email queue in Kayako.

Just clarifying: Do you mean to setup the email queue in Kayako via fetching by POP3?

If yes, we would prefer to have emails parsed directly to kayako rather than by having it fetch emails by POP3 as I believe it is quicker.

Yes I meant adding email@gmail.com as an Email Queue and fetch emails from that account using POP3 SSL.
