confused about uploading files on installation of esupport - 06-09-2007, 08:52 PM

Hi, I am now installaing my trial of esupport on my server (WOOHOO) and I am a little confused at the point of the manual where it talks about uploading files. I have completed everything else in the manual up to that point.
Where am I uploading the files to? If I have MySQL and Apache, PHP and the esupport software all on the same server, can't I just install these files locally? Sorry, it may be a stupid question, but I am learning as I go.

Thanks in advance!

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

You are uploading the files to wherever you want your eSupport installation to be accessed from.

I have typed up some typical cases for you:

If you are using Windows server with IIS, and your root web files folder was C:\Inet: (and when pointing to www.yourdomain.com the file C:\Inet\index.php was loaded) then if you upload or extract your eSupport files to C:\Inet\support, your desk would be accessible via www.yourdomain.com/support

If you are using a cPanel server, your root web files folder will be /home/cpanelaccountname/public_html/ - uploading to /home/cpanelaccountname/public_html/support would make your desk accessible via www.yourdomain.com/support

If you are using a Plesk server, your root web files folder will be /home/cpanelaccountname/httpdocs/ - uploading to /home/cpanelaccountname/httpdocs/support would make your desk accessible via www.yourdomain.com/support

Hope this helps,

Question about doing the 'Setup' of eSupport - 08-09-2007, 12:31 AM

Thanks Jamie, Sorry if I wasn't clear about my scenario, but I am just doing a test install on localhost. My webserver (Apache) is on the same computer as the installation of esupport, so I didn't have to upload them but just copy and paste them.
I have gone through the manual and I am at the point where it says to 'Click on the Setup option from the setup menu, as shown below...)
I don't see that. The manual says the setup scripts are located in the /setup/ folder. Mine are at /opt/apache/htdocs. I can go to http://localhost/setup and see 'setup.php', but when I click on it returns a message that says:

The file "setup.php" is of type applicatio/x-php (PHP Script), and Web Browser does not know how to handle this file type.

I have an open it or Save it to disk option. I am using Mozilla 1.7 for Sun Java Desktop.
The only folders that I can see in the setup directory at http://localhost/setup is impex, includes, steps and upgrade.
Now, does this have anything to do with it...? I forgot to create the file phpinfo.php to check for the zend optimizer or Ioncube optimizer. I went back and created that file and put it in htdocs and went to localhost. I saw it and clicked on it, but it only displayed in a new browser window as <?php phpinfo(); ?>.
I have since downloaded and installed the Zend Optimizer successfully, but I still cannot get the phpinfo file to display anything.

Help again,

Much thanks

Aaron

That says PHP isn't installed or you haven't restarted Apache after a PHP install.

further question - 10-09-2007, 05:50 PM

OK, so if I have already installed PHP successfully and I have restarted Apache and it is still not working (only displaying <?php phpinfo(); ?>, what next?

Thanks much,

Aaron

There are some lines you need to add to your httpd.conf file. Have you added these?

See http://uk.php.net/manual/en/install.windows.apache1.php for Apache 1.3.x or http://uk.php.net/manual/en/install.windows.apache2.php for Apache 2.0.x.

Nevermind - 10-09-2007, 06:57 PM

Nevermind, I found some articles at: Apache 2.0 on Unix systems - http://uk.php.net/manual/en/install.unix.apache2.php and Apache 1.3.x on Unix systems - http://uk.php.net/manual/en/install....ll.unix.apache. I will look the 2.0 article and see what I can find.

Thanks again
