Gray, Yellow , Red color in template does not make sense - 25-08-2008, 07:37 AM

in Templates

Gray color is there to let you know that you have not touched the template and no modification has been done

Yellow color is there to help you understand that you have touched
the template and it is modified

The Red color is there to tell you that this template usually when you upgrade needs to be reverted and the file is important.

NOW:

what is the use of red color?
when you modify it it is not red any more it is simply yellow which says
you have modified it but after a long time
how are you supposed to know the yellow file was a red file which when upgrading you should take care?

No. It just says that this file needs to be reverted. Nothing to do with its importance.

Shows, that you have to revert these templates after upgrade.

Please check the manual. After upgrading, you have to check for templates which require upgrade revert. Changing these templates after upgrade before reverting them it *not* correct.

Grey: Not Modified
Yellow: Modified
Red: Upgrade Revert Required

I think what is being said here is that if you've modified a template that was red and can't remember which ones you modified then you are SOL. It appears as though the proper procedure here would be to revert all templates that show red immediately after the upgrade and then proceed to modify the template.

In Version 4 we will ensure that it is clear when a template has been both modified and needs revert.

Part of the upgrade procedure needs to be optionally doing this to be honest. It is something I imagine many forget about.

If it was red after the upgrade and then you modified it and now its yellow, there is know way of knowing that it was red before.

Ohhh, I get what you guys mean now. Modifying a template that requires a revert should not have its revert required tag removed. This is a bug imo.

I do not think Kayako software scans each and every software to make sure the new changes are implemented. Only those templates which are tagged as "revert required" are marked in Red by Kayako when you upgrade. Kayako developers assume you have not modified the default template code which IMO is the way to go.

It would still be nice if there were some way to not lose your customization after an upgrade.

Having to recreate your templates can be a chore after a new release...

The only option I can think of is that Kayako specifies which code of each template that they have changed and what changes they made. However I do not believe Kayako will consider this option.

I am still not updating because it is better to live with the bugs than going to the pain of upgrading again and again . so Still am not sure. Have to wait for version 4 I think

I agree with jnet. If I cannot import or restore my templates but have to sit and translate again. That is a disaster.. Expensive aswell.

Is there really no way to get around this when you upgrade?
