How to install upgrade without losing changes

I've just installed the latest upgrade, however, all of the changes that I made in the templates has been lost. How can I avoid this? Is there any way to install the upgrade and keep the changes I made? It's not very practical to have to redo them all.

Some experienced member should write a step-by-step guide to preserving template and language changes so that we can make it a sticky.

Hi Paula,

Before every upgrade, you should backup your modified templates. Then, I suggest that you use a tool such as CompareIt! to load your backed up template and then paste in the new, reverted template that came with the upgrade.

This will allow you to see what has changed and what has not, as well as make clear your own modifications (so you remember them).

We are working on a better way to differentiate between 'original' and 'modified' templates for Version 4. We will also soon be posting specific template changelogs, detailing what has changed and where in each release.

Thanks but this is a nightmare. I have made so many changes in templates because I use many languages now I suggest that like phpbb forum

Only for themplates a MOD is written

Find

and replace or some thing

please make it easier for us

I do not think Kayako will recode its upgrading system atleast not for v3.
