I Need to Find My MYSQL password in my install - 04-12-2008, 03:37 AM

Hi

I recently moved from one host to another, I backed up all files and my mysql

I uploaded all my files, and imported my mysql fine

But to get it back up and operational. I have to assign the username and password of the mysql to it

I only know my username, not my password

Now I had the same thing happen with my wordpress blog. BUT wordpress stores the username and password in the config.php file so i was able to go get the password and get it installed

So question is, where is the MYSQl password stored in the files? which file and i can go get it

I've seen that error not only from not uploading in forced BINARY, but also because of the program used to unpack it. If you're absolutely sure that file was uploaded in BINARY, try unpacking it with a different program.
I use Power Archiver, and have never run into that issue.

thanks i will give that a try. I basically had downloaded the files from my other site on the other host onto my hardrive and then uploaded them to the new host in binary

I will try redownloading altogether kayako, using power archive and using a different ftp client to rule out all of them. I will let you know how I get on

Question though will this mean I will have to setup all the settings again or is all that stored in the MYSQL?

Question 04-12-2008, 07:19 PM

Yeah this isnt going to work

As this is not a fresh install that I need to do

I am literally transferring files from one host to another and one mysql to another mysql

If i use brand new files im going to have to go through the whole setup again which could mess up my mysql file that is there

please advise???

I would suggest that you drop in a support ticket to have your MySQL restored and see if that works, because the only other way I know to get your password back if you had a back of your MySQL databases before the crash and that will restore your DB's again.

Mazapoint: you can shut the mysql server down, then restart it with a command line flag that tells it to ignore the authentication database (I think it's --skip-grant-tables or something). At that point, you just log in with root and no password, use the mysql database, and update the user table, then restart the database again normally.

There are concrete instructions in the MySQL manual.
