installation issue - verify database connection failure

I am encountering an authentication error during setup phase of install:
Verifying Database Connection FAILED
Reason: Access denied for user '<user_name>'@'localhost' (using password: YES)


I've done plenty of installs of PHP/MySQL apps using cpanel. The host I'm installing Kayako on uses the h-sphere control panel, but I dont see why that would make any difference. That said, the procedure for configuring MySQL seems a bit different and permissions are set by setting the user to "read", "write" or "dba". I've tried all three, but keep getting the FAILED message.


I can login directly to the MySQL database using the user name/pass, exactly as entered into Kayako's config.php file


So, if we assume I have created the user and database correctly, plus configured the config.php file correctly, what other reasons might cause the FAILED message?

Plainly put, that message means that either the username or the password are incorrect, or that rights weren't given for localhost.
