mCrypt Not Loaded - 14-08-2008, 02:19 PM

mCrypt is not loaded on my host and I can't figure out how to get it installed. Why did Kayako have to require mCrypt? I'm now in the process of figuring out how to get mCrypt to work right.

I *think* from version 5 onwards it was something installed by default.

My host just told me they will not install mCrypt. I have to do it myself.

Installing PHP5 - DreamHost

These are the instructions they give me and if I do them they do not support custom software installations.

I can't help much with the php install, but I would suggest that you might want to put Kayako on a separate subdomain (I happen to know DH will give those to you freely) if you're concerned about them supporting other software on your site.

I think his host installed it for him on the server he is hosted on. Which server are you hosted on - Windows/UNIX? Also do you have Administrator/root access to the server?

Full instructions on installing mcrypt are here: PHP: Mcrypt - Manual

Generally speaking, on windows you uncomment the line in php.ini that refers to mcrypt.dll, and on unix, you do a package install (something like yum install php-mcrypt, or apt-get or ports or whatever's appropriate on your machine.)

It's really generally quite straightforward.

Just put php_mcrypt.dll in your ext folder.
And do:
On Windows installations, for the dynamic extension (extension=php_mcrypt.dll) to load properly, you must copy libmcrypt.dll from your PHP root folder (e.g. C:\PHP) to the following location:

C:\WINDOWS\system32

With this done, the dynamic extension will load up just fine

My host had instructions on accessing the shell and compiling and installing a version of PHP with mCrypt loaded. I posted the url for the instructions in a post above.
