Need Help Installing MySQL & PHP on Windows 2003 with IIS 6 - 19-04-2006, 09:34 PM

I'm trying to determine whether it would be better to do this hosted version of eSupport or install it on my Windows 2003 IIS server.

I've only messed with PHP a little and not really MySQL at all. I'm not sure how much hassle this is going to be to try and set it up. However I'm concerned about speed issues if we use the hosted version.

Could someone who has actually setup PHP and MySQL to work with IIS 6 please help me out as far as what I would need to do.

1) Which PHP should i be using 4 or 5. Should I use the Installer of the zip package? I see that there is already some help on this forum for configuring PHP so that seems pretty straight forward.

2) Same questions with MySQL, what version should I use... I assume the most recent. Do I need just the essentials package or the full. I haven't found any real information on configuring MySQL at all on here... is there any configuration needed after installing it.

3) After installing PHP and MySQL... do I need to do anything specific to connect the two?

4) What are the "gotchas", or the things I need to watch out for, things that would frustrate a first timer installing these things that I should be wary of or make sure I configure.

5) Is there a package out there that will just automatically install PHP and MySQL on Windows and set them up to work together (with IIS)? or is that hoping for too much?

Just been through it - 19-04-2006, 09:58 PM

I just went through what you want to do. Unfortunatly the hosted solution was something my management didn't want. You must use PHP version 4 as 5 doesn't work for SupportSuite. Do not use the installer.....get the zip file. When installing MySQL, you can use the installer and configure the database from the command line utility. That was the easy part. My issue is IMAP support with PHP. Still trying to get that sorted out as the quick fix didn't do it.
Good Luck!
