New Install, 2nd attempt, "failed to open stream"...

Hi Everyone

I've been beavering away at this now for 24 hours. I went and bought the owned support suite and had a dry run, now i'm on dry run 2.0

I'm running on a Windows Server 2003 box, with the latest mySQL, PHP etc installed. I run the kayako auto setup.php file and that's all well and good but when when i go to the admin CP for the first time i get loads of text along the lines of the following:

Any ideas?

I would post my phpinfo link, but i have another problem which i haven't quite gotten to the bottom of yet. Basically this is on a second IIS box within the LAN and I only have 1 static IP - so i'm trying to work out how to get some port 80 traffic to my "other" IIS server... If I could do this, then i could link back to that file...

Hi dmad,

You need to set your cache and files folder to be writeable (the Windows equivilant of CHMOD 777 on Unix). SupportSuite is trying to generate and store cache files in either of these folders, but it does not have operating system file permissions on your web server.

whoah there! That sounds like a definitive. But hang on - treat me like a complete lemon - do you mean amend the security tab under the folder properties of these two folders?

Okay, i made an assumption that I needed to remove the (grey) tick box from the "Read Only" attribute of both folder properties- but after applying and returning back into the properties box, it's grey ticked again...

Try it even though it shows that. Some FTP clients are weird and don't show updated options until you refresh the file list.

What FTP Client are you using?

hey. well that's it - no FTP involved. I'm on the local machine (as in working from the Windows 2003 server) here and now. I have reinstalled this thing about a dozen times over the last two days and figured with a few trace elements missing on the perfect procedure for install - however the last time I installed it, i didn't get this as a problem.

For what it's worth, \cache just has index.html in it (not read only) and files the same. Not sure why it's greyed out on the folder properties....

I'm running it as localhost right now (I got someone from the support team to add localhost as a valid domain name for my licence...)

Oh right. Try deleting both the cache and files directories and creating new directories. Permissions shouldn't be needed on Windows.

Same thing....This is really getting me down now.

I've re-downloaded the original package and uncompressed it, moved the upload to a new location within wwwroot, created a new website in IIS then (in order to reset all the permissions as they should be) and it's still not playing ball.

I'm thinking it must be a configuration issue... I'm getting desperate, so i've attached a cut-and-paste from my phpinfo page and an attachement of an example of what i'm getting... it always is to do with :\Inetpub\wwwroot\includes\SmartyLight\class.templ ate.php

It definately is a permissions issue. Besides "Read" you need to make sure your cache and files directories have "Archive" permissions as well

Thanks for that...i've checked and nothing was ticked - although my folder properties is a little different to yours in that it has an advanced button next to "Read Only" and in there you can tick a box which says "This folder is ready for archiving" - I'm assuming that is the same thing....

I get exactly the same error.....

Funny - while google searching the problem i've found a site hosting what looks like kayako with the exact same problem!

Okay, i'm bugging out on this and reinstalling the OS (mainly so as to start from scratch). To test a little further, i took the entire www folder which contained all the kayako files and gave "Everyone" permissions of full control. Just to add a little further, i added groups like ISR etc, re-ran the setup and still the same problem.

Okay, i've reinstalled the OS and the problem is gone. AFAIK the only difference was that originally I was trying is on Windows Server 2003 Web Edition (which is supposedly specifically for hosting etc) and this time I installed it on a base install of Windows SBS 2003 (with none of the extras installed).

I checked folder permissions and they were exactly the same before and after, so i don't doubt it was permissions like everyone was saying but whereever those permissions lay, i never got to the bottom of it.
