Understanding Upgrade

I felt that was about time I ran an upgrade and am testing the upgrade from our existing 3.11.01 to 3.30.02.

I am testing this locally to see what issues arise. I have uploaded all the files and run the Upgrade.php file. When I open SS I see that the version is now 3.30.02 - so good so far.

Looking at the templates I have some that are marked 'Upgrade Revert Required' and some are marked 'Modified'.

I am probably being very thick here but I want to get it clear in my mind what each of these represents.

Given that I have uploaded all the new files, I am not sure what the what the difference between Modified and Upgrade Revert required is.

The manual says ... it is necessary to check for templates that require a revert back to the new, updated 'original' version of the template in order to implement a change brought by the template.

I am at a loss to understand what that means - can some kind person please explain in lay-mans language.

Hi Alex,

The templates you need to revert are those the upgrade script has marked as "Upgrade Revert Required" (i.e. the template has changed between versions). The ones marked as modified are those you have manually modified (so that they differ from the original.

If you have modified a template (in the past) that the upgrade script has marked as "Upgrade Revert Required", the "Upgrade Revert Required" will take precedence over the "Modified" flag.

So, you don't need to revert your templates marked as "Modified", but you do need to revert those marked as "Upgrade Revert Required".

So if I understand it correctly, effectively the templates marked Revert Upgrade Required, are those where presumably some code/functionality change, and we need to re-apply our own changes to the file?
