The steps I recommend are :- 1. Export the custom language using Admin CP -> Languages -> Import / Export. 2. Upgrade the software remembering to run the /setup/ -> Upgrade tool. 3. Delete the custom language using the Manage Languages section. 4. Go to the Language Packs forum and check to see if a language pack exists for the version you are upgrading to. If it does, download and Import it using Import / Export again. If one doesn't, follow the instructions at Language Pack Update Tool to update the language pack.
