Zend Closed to Zend Open WITHOUT re-install - 05-07-2007, 05:42 PM

Hi,

I 1st got the eSupport monthly leased. Got it installed, and configured exactly the way I want it.

Now, I have finally bought the eSupport owned.

Leased is Zend Closed and owned is Zend Open.

Is there a way to upgrade to Zend Open WITHOUT doing an export of everything, re-install, and import? This is what Kayako Live Support is telling me!

That would just be CRAZY! I have done tons of changes to templates, phrases, etc, AND, the HelpDesk is in 100% production!

Any thoughts from anyone who has done this before would be GREATLY appreciated!

Kind Regards,

Richelo Killian

Hi Richelo,

I am of the belief (and I checked with our Service's department) that simply writing over the files would work without a complete install and reinstall.

I suggest you do the following (assuming your install directory is support):

1. Backup your database.

2. Upload the new Zend Open files into a new directory called support_open - make sure you edit your config.php file to point to your database. Also don't forget the key.php file. You will also need to set your file permissions again (cli.php, cache folder etc).

3. Rename the support directory to support_closed.

4. Rename the support_open directory to support.

Assuming all went well, your support desk should be operational. If not, it will be easy to roll back simply by reversing the folder renaming process (rename support to support_open and support_closed to support).

Many thanks,

Hi Jamie,

Thanks. I kind of thought so as well on the overwriting. Problem is that the files are all in the root of a sub-domain. I suppose I could just still rename the folder, as it is just a folder in the main public_html directory.

Your steps above though, is not just overwriting, but, still creating a fresh directory.

I think what I will do, is make a complete copy of the directory as it is now, as well as database backup, and then overwrite the file in the current directory.

The main thing I want to avoid, is all the template changes I have made, so, I guess I will NOT overwrite the templates folder! ;-)

Thanks for the help.

Kind Regards,

Richelo Killian

PHEW! HUGE cold sweat over!

I just copied all the files over, except for config and themes, and all is still working 100%!

Cheers

Richelo
