Company migrating to hosted exchange 2007... how??? - 09-10-2008, 12:48 AM

My company hosts their website with Hostgator, but the MX records pass all e-mail to a Linux box with Sendmail loaded on it... These servers are both off-site.

My company now wants to discontinue using the linux box and go with hosted exchange 2007. I have been told that this will not work right, because the encryption method that exchange 2007 uses.

So... I need to find a way to run my company e-mail on Exchange Server 2007, but have the supportrequest e-mail address somehow go to another server... but possibly somehow retain the same domain name???

Has anyone had to do this?

If your wanting to go down that route, you could just setup exchange to forward say support@domain.com to an external email account (GMail, FuseMail, etc) and so a POP mail pull form that.

It's hosted exchange, so I think mail forwarding is limited. I'll check the cpanel

Please be fairly warned that Exchange 2007 has a well known defect in its Kerberos implementation which causes it to broadcast corrupt Kerberos keys (even when Kerberos is turned off) which in turn cause faults in the PHP driver under limited circumstances. You can find documentation of these issues by googling "unknown gssapi error" and similar terms.

If your setup triggers these circumstances, you will need to recompile the PHP IMAP module with --disable-kerberos to continue using Exchange 2007. If that is impossible or difficult for you, we strongly recommend testing a PHP mail reading program (supportsuite, for example) to see whether the GSSAPI defect is triggered *before* moving all your accounts and mail over to the new server.

This defect does not affect other versions of exchange, by the way. Only 2007.
