Question E-Mail parser does not fetch mails and does not log anything - 13-05-2008, 06:25 PM

Hi,

I've set up an e-mail parser to fetch e-mails from a POP 3 account. There are 2 e-mails in the POP3 account's inbox, but when I start the POP3 fetching task, nothing happens. The mails don't get fetched and there's no log entry in the task log neither in the parser log. There's not even a login attempt in the POP3 server's log.

Is there any way to turn on something like debug logging for the mail parser to find out why it does not work?

Best regards,
Sven

Sven,
Try running the URL:
Code:
http://www.domain.com/path_to_your_support/cron/index.php?_t=parser
in the browser and see what message it displays

Thanks a lot, that helps

Recompile your PHP with IMAP support and it should fix the issue.

Kayako uses the PHP IMAP functions to fetch emails into the system - may it be POP3 or IMAP email account. Hence it is a requirement if you use POP3/IMAP accounts.

Seems like a server related issue. Does your Mail server exist on the same server on which Kayako is installed on? And the POP3 account domain, does that too exist on the same server or external server?

I am having the same problem: E-Mail parser does not fetch mails and does not log anything.

Cron seems to be working OK looking at this message:

Connecting to 'pop.kpn-officedsl.nl' on port 110 with user name '80gul131'...
There are no messages in the inbox; done!
Fetch completed! Total messages processed: 0. Accepted: 0 / Rejected: 0

There is mail in that box! But nothing seems to happen, also the parser log file stays empty.

Please advice

Best regards

Robert

What is the message when you run the URL
Code:
http://www.yourdomain.com/support/cron/index.php?_t=parser
in the browser?

It is in the message:

Connecting to 'pop.kpn-officedsl.nl' on port 110 with user name '80gul131'...
There are no messages in the inbox; done!
Fetch completed! Total messages processed: 0. Accepted: 0 / Rejected: 0

Which version of Kayako are you using? I do not believe that is how the cron's index.php displays the message in the browser. It is usually like this:

Quote:
Total Messages in Inbox: 0
Total Messages in Inbox: 0
0 Total Messages
Rejected Messages: 0
Accepted Messages: 0

That's the new 3.30.00 cron. We revised output to be easier to read for larger lists, and to dump more diagnostic information.

That's bizarre. Your server seems to think that PHP is only allowed to open system sockets. That's the inverse of a common security measure, to only allow PHP to open *non*system sockets.

That's a server misconfiguration. Reasonably likely choices are your firewall/iptables/ipchains configurations, your TCP configuration, Apache's configuration and so on. If you're using any pervasive security products, check them.

That's not a SupportSuite issue.

That's because the email server is telling SupportSuite that there's nothing there to fetch. Have you connected to that account to see what a typical mail client says?

Also, if you did connect with a typical mail client, did you remember to tell it not to remove the messages from the mail server when it was done?
