Email Piping on different Servers - 18-09-2007, 12:51 AM

I'm trying to migrate our Kayako Support Suite system from 1 server to a couple for servers.

Server a. -> Kayako Support Suite.
Server b. -> Email Server

Would it still be possible to "pipe" emails unto Server a from Server b?

I don't think so but you would be able to use POP or IMAP to pull the mail.

Presuming your helpdesk is installed on DomainA.com and that the email email@domainA.com is already piped into the helpdesk, what you can do is:

1) Add the email address email@domainb.com into the helpdesk with the method as "Pipe"
2) Set an email forward from email@domainb.com to email@domaina.com.

Now send an email to email@domainb.com, it should create a ticket into the helpdesk.

That would require having a mail service on the Kayako server though defeating the object of splitting into 2 servers.

Hi,

Yes, Piping on different servers is very much possible. For this you have to do a dummy installation on all the domains. By dummy installation I meant just files are required and no need to execute setup. After placing files on all the domains open the database access for all the domains. After this configure the config file on all the dummy installations according to the original helpdesk.

Now we are all set for configuring piping on multiple servers . Just configure the piping normally using different cli/index.php on different servers.

The above method is also valid for configuring integration of ModernBill and SupportSuite on different servers.

If you have any query regarding this then please create a ticket or contact me on my email address.

Regards,

I just gave an idea of configuring email piping where domains are on multiple servers. You are right the email piping needs mail servers on all the servers. I missed this to explain( Thanks Hiren). If mail server is missing then refer to Piping on seperate server
