IMAP wiped out my mailbox - 24-08-2008, 12:40 AM

Hi,
I've just setup my mail parser to check my sales@ email box via IMAP. I had about 100 emails in that folder (and on my Mac in my mail.app) as well.

Esupport successfully pulled all the messages in via IMAP, but it pulled them completely off the server, which of course, emptied out my email box on my mail app as well.

IMAP usually "syncs" with the server, so I assumed that I was safe using IMAP - that my mail messages would still be on the server (and in my mailbox) and in esupport .. and if I deleted a message in esupport, then it would be deleted on the server.

That's how IMAP usually works - what happened? Even in POP3, there is typically an option to "leave messages on the server".

Jamie - I see your online - u were so fast answering my question about custom status', I hope you can catch this one tonight, too!

Thanks,
Fred

eSupport ist *not* a Mailer, it's a Ticket-System, so Mailbox-Usage is exclusive and no Mail is left in the Box after processing.

Accessing the same Mailbox from different locations allows the communication with the customer without using eSupport and without the knowledge of the system (not Ticket-Entries, not audit) and workflow-violation. This is not the intention of a Ticket-System.

btw: imap is not a piping issue, isn't it?

This is how the product works. The manual is fairly clear on the point. Not a bug.
