issue using php mail () - 24-01-2009, 07:23 PM

Hi everyone.
The issue we are having on our self hosted installation of kayako is as follows:
If we use SMTP settings to send mails everything works smoothly: notifications to staff, autoresponder to users etc.
If we switch to using php mail, then notifications and autoresponders are sent only to accounts (both staff emails and users emails) that are only on our mail server (the same server where kayako is hosted). Users whose emails are on other servers do not receive any mail messages at all (ticket submit confirmation, staff reply) - nothing. As soon as we switch to smtp settings, those users start receiving messages. This behaviour is for any tickets either submitted from user panel or created from new emails. I'm quite new to kayako, and haven't found solution for it at the forum. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Never had this problem but after recent experience and testing, I have started using external SMTP for all applications I use. It generally means mail ends up in the inbox too rather than the spam box!

SMTP relay service - authenticated SMTP email service, mobile / relaying denied and SMTP errors solved. is what I use now.

This probably means that your host hasn't set up a routable MTA on that server. The default unix mailserver is local only. It is not uncommon for hosts to completely ignore mail service on hosting boxes when there's a dedicated mail box available. This was probably in your signup mail from your host.

Is there a reason you aren't just using SMTP?
