Question Plesk and Email Piping Tutorial?? - 11-05-2009, 03:34 PM

Hi,

I took a look at Matthew's "Piping with Plesk 8.3 and CentOS 4" post, but I still have some questions about how to do this. The step-by-step is great, but very general.

1. Do I first need to create all the email addresses I need to pipe in Plesk first (i.e. sales@domain.com, orders@domain.com, etc...)?

2. How do I create qmail files? Also, will I need to create a qmail file for each email address I created (i.e. sales@domain.com, orders@domain.com, etc...)?

3. Then I have to upload each qmail file to the following directory?

/var/qmail/mailnames/yourdomain.com/

Thank you,

olimits7

  1. No. You are creating files whose names represent your email addresses.
  2. Try WinSCP. It's free and will let you create files directly on the server.
  3. With WinSCP, create a file of the desired name; it will then open for editing. Do so, then save. Done.

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for the quick reply.

Is WinSCP a feature software that is listed on Plesk, or do I need to download this separately?

Thanks again,

olimits7

WinSCP is a SFTP/FTP client. You can even try to use CuteFTP. We use CuteFTP Pro and have had no issues.

Oh, WinSCP is just an FTP client...I see!

So is the "qmail" file just a simple text file with a *.qmail-sales, *.qmail-orders, *.qmail-returns, etc... extensions? And with just the follwing text included in it?

"| php -q /var/www/vhosts/yourdomain.com/httpdocs/cli/index.php"

Thank you,

What worked for me on Plesk:

- chmod 755 all the parent directories-- httpdocs, support and cli
- remove the -q:

|php /path-to-pipe-index.php

This was very helpful.
