Web hosting & email piping - 19-03-2008, 10:58 PM

Hello,

I had a look in the forum but there are too much subject with email piping and I don't find an answer to my simple question.

Is it possible to configure email piping in a Web Host? I've not my own server so I'm dependant of my Web Host that don't provide cpanel or other as descried in the user guide!

But my Web Host give us the ability to forward email. So I tried with this feature but without success because it doesn't accept other than a valid email address (so it's impossible to put the path for the pipe page).

What could I do?
For the moment, I configured the fetching of email but I'd prefer to be notified instantly by each new email. And I suppose that it is not recommanded to configure the fetch every minute.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Set up a cron job every 5 minutes so that it is near-instant.

Ok, thx for your answer, but you told me in the other topic than task in Admin CP are pseudo-cron and works only if I'm connected??!!

My Web Host doesn't accept cron neither

It only works on login unless you setup a cron job. You could use remote cron: hosted cron server, free, automated crontab job scheduler. to run /cron/index.php every so often.

Hello,

I was looking for solution for email piping instead fetching them and I found some free hosting with cpanel.

Since the path for the file has to be relative but my eSupport is on an other hosting, is it possible to pipe email? For example by reaching a relative page which includes the pipe file?

You can only pipe email if your server control panel gives you the ability to do it or if the techs can do it for you when on shared hosting. If they will, simply follow the manual (Redirecting) to set it up. The path needs to be the full path (like /home/user/public_html/helpdesk...)

I would just setup your home/work pc to run http://mysupportdesk.com/cron/index.php?_t=parser every 5 minutes. That will parse your mails.
