Whitelist local/loopback/127.* etc. - 15-06-2007, 05:57 PM

hi everyone.

we recently purchased the 'owned' (ie: with source code) version of support suite and now it's up and running we are interested in customizing it to fit our needs.

in order to do this we would like to run a dev and live version of the server and i was wondering if anyone may be able give me some pointers on whether this is possible.

thx

You will need a license key for the software to work on your dev server. Contact Kayako and check if they would be willing to provide you with a dev key. If not, you will have to buy an additional domain license.

If you want to place the 2nd instance on the same server, I believe Kayako has indicated that as long as it's under the same domain you registered (ie. a subfolder of your primary esupport install) you're ok. (check the forums, I'm prett y sure Jamie has posted something to this effect)

As far as the actual execution/setup, I don't have that for you. Sorry. (Though I need to figure this out also)

Features I need asap:
1) Ticket search in the client portal!
2) Column display in client portal showing clients email address or name
3) Downloads by client
(i.e. - each client has their own download area and can't see/touch downloads for any other client.) This would be on top of a "public" download area.
4) Integrated KB image uploads
The ability for staff to upload images with a KB articles.
Cheers!

The licence of SupportSuite covers an additional installation under your domain for development purposes etc.

Ah? Do we really need an extra licence? I change my DNS to local when i'm "playing" with the code and that works well, but ... if it's not allowed...

Hi Sheep,

I'll get back to you on that and will post clarification soon.

It would nice if you could remove licencing if the domain was localhost or if the IP began with 127., 10. or 192.

hi. thanks for the clarifying.

it's ok to have: www.domain.com/dev/ .. so it's sort of possible

however ideally we would like to have a dev.domain.com setup hosted on one of our internal servers for development .. as jamie has said that the license covers an addtional installation for development would this also be possible?

Allowing an additional domain for development would be open to abuse really...

yep. can see your point, unfortunately the status quo isn't that great either.

your idea of allowing private ip's (192.168...) however would be ideal.
hope this is something that kayako will consider for a future release.

Yea. I think it would be the best idea. Can this be passed to the developers please Jamie?

But then, if the suite is used on a big company LAN ... no licences check?

Maybe just localhost and 127.x.x.x then.
