Does this Beta Work? - 24-06-2007, 10:54 PM

We invite you to download and test the service today! You can get your copy from http://hotfix.kayako.com/kasus/Kayak...TA-1.0.1.3.exe

I assume this is the Beta for the Update service..

Does the software work? I have tried to install it several tiems with no luck or it is hanging on install for considerably longer than 10 minutes..

Any ideas...

Hopefully this section was opended to discuss this new product offering?

If not move it to where ever you wish...

Notes Added:

After a Hang for aprox 10 minutes it finally did install... not sure why the hang occured...

The lag on mine is less than 12 seconds. My machine is a heavily-under-load 3700+ 64bit with 1GB of RAM, Win XP.

Thats weird then. I have a AMD Athlon X2 FX-62, 4GB of RAM and WinXP and the lag is as I said, around a 1 minute.

I actually have a question regarding this..

Shouldn't the installer check to see if it is installed or not and only install it if required?

If you are talking about the C++ distributable, I have suggested this and Jamie said "No, this isn't possible - there is no reliable way of checking if it is already installed.".

Well I know my Machine is not the issue at least speed wise..

Dual Processor 3.2ghz with 2 gb of RAM...

It might be an issue with it comflicting with Antivirus possibly or maybe something else related to how it is checking or what it is checking...

I would hope you're using the .NET framework in the first place and not be installing these types of things on my computer! Get into the "90's"!!!

As requested over messenger by Jamie, CPU usage is 25, 15 and 10 respectively for 3 msiexec processes.

Tried again with Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware protection (Ashampoo) turned off and still the same.

Always takes about a minute.

Just a thought but what about a defaultly ticked box saying "Install C++ Redistributable" that we could untick?

its trying to install the c++ redis... of course theres ways to figure this out..

The target machine where you run your application may already have the required dependencies installed. You can look-up for them in the WinSxS folder. Assemblies are grouped here on categories, each with its own folder. Folder names start with the platform name, followed by Microsoft, category (Windows, VC80, MSXML, Tools), assembly name, a token number, version and additional identifiers. The manifest files for these assemblies are located in the Manifest subfolder of WinSxS and have the same name as the folder of the assembly group they contain information about.

oh and BTW the lag is not because you have slow pc.. its because you have 1.1 and 2.0 and others already in system...

my dev box has .net dev framework , and prolly 10 other SDK's and compilers and stuff including delphi.. vb , dot net etc.. and it takes 4-5 minutes..
on a p4ht 3.4 with 4 gig ram

Oh right, that would make sense.
