    Howdy.

We need help updating Kayako on a new server.

The live help desk is on the old server (v.4.40.1148) which is PHP 5.2. and has data that we'll want on the new server with the latest build of Kayako.

Not sure it we should update the new server and move the newer data from the old server over to the new server... or update it on the old server and re-do the migration to the new server.

The new server has the 4.40.1148 build, is php 5.5 and I've downloaded latest build.

Can anyone help us out with that? If so, how much would you charge?

    Thanks.

    Pete

    Hi Pete,

It would be advisable to set up a new server. Then, you can do the migration and upgrade in a single go. The latest version (4.72.1) is compatible with PHP5.4/5.5/5.6 and requires MySQL 5.6.4 (or later), so it might prove difficult to upgrade PHP and MySQL applications on the old server. Also, upgrading the PHP can potentially break your current installation.

You can move the MySQL data over by generating a .SQL file using 'mysqldump' command-line utility.

    mysqldump -h DB_HOSTNAME -u DB_USERNAME -p DB_NAME > backup.sql

The backup can be restored in a newly created MySQL database on the new server using the following command:

    mysql -u DB_USERNAME -p DB_NAME < /path/to/backup.sql

If you come across any issues, drop us an email at support@kayako.com.

    Regards,
